What Is an Offline Draft in Fantasy Football?

An offline draft is a fantasy football draft that happens outside the app. Instead of everyone clicking picks in a timed online draft room, the league meets in person or on a call, makes picks out loud, and someone records them. The app only finds out who got whom after the fact, or as the commissioner types each pick in.

Offline draft vs. online draft

In an online draft, the platform runs the show: it sets the order, starts a clock for every pick, auto-picks for anyone who is slow, and updates rosters instantly. In an offline draft the people run the show. There is no clock unless you bring a kitchen timer, nobody gets auto-picked, and the order is whatever you agreed on. The trade-off is bookkeeping: somebody has to keep an accurate board, and then the picks have to get into the app so the season can be scored.

How Sleeper, ESPN, and Yahoo handle it

The big platforms all support this in roughly the same way. The commissioner sets the league draft type to offline, the league holds its draft wherever it wants, and afterward the commissioner enters every pick by hand, roster by roster. It works, but with 12 people and 15 rounds that is 180 picks to type in, and a single mistake means a roster is wrong until somebody notices.
